Kodiak High School had a good run at the 13th annual Tsunami Bowl in Seward, finishing in first place in the presentation part of the competition.

Of 17 teams who presented from all over the state, Kodiak managed first place on their presentation titled “Effects of Polar Ice Melt on Ocean Chemistry and Kodiak Island’s Economy and Energy Technology.”

The presentation detailed the hydropower plant, the wind turbine project and how climate change may affect the fisheries and tourism industries.

The team’s research paper tied for third place with Seward out of 17 teams, and they placed sixth in the consolation bracket of the quiz bowl out of 20 teams.

The Kodiak students also got an award for third place for the combination of research paper and presentation.
