Kodiak firearms enthusiasts will be able to view guns and gun accessories from more than a dozen vendors and individual sellers at the second annual Emerald Isle Gun Show this weekend.
The show gives people in Kodiak an opportunity to purchase, sell or trade guns without having to leave the island.
Gun show promoter Michael Horstman said the interest was strong enough in the community that it needed to be held again after its inaugural run last year.
“It’s historical and traditional,” Horstman said. “Gun shows are a once a year thing.”
The 2012 gun show went so well that Horstman expanded it to two days this year.
“Every person that came through (last year), vendor and constituent, said ‘thank you,’” Horstman said. “I’ve never seen that at a gun show.”
Thirteen different vendors will have booths set up in the Kodiak Harbor Convention Center. All the vendors are local. Horstman said he reached out to gun vendors on the mainland who expressed interest in participating, but none could reach Kodiak because the ferry Tustumena is out of service.
Visitors to the show can bring their own unloaded guns with them. All guns will be secured with zip ties upon entry and will then be given back to owners to walk around with.
“It’s entirely acceptable to bring a gun that you’d like to trade or have appraised,” Horstman said. “Let someone look at it to see what you have.”
Some archery equipment will also be on display.
This year, people in attendance will have the chance to win door prizes. Anyone who attends the show will be entered for the chance to win a prize donated by Mack’s Sport Shop, a Subway gift card, and a wood duck decoy.
People can stop by the gun show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday or Sunday.
Entry to the show is $5 per person.
