Fog shrouds Near Island Channel on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013 as the Alaska Marine Highway System ferry Tustumena takes on passengers at City Pier 1. James Brooks/Kodiak Daily Mirror

The M/V Tustumena will have 10 days of sailings canceled because “necessary additional work” turned up during the ferry’s annual overhaul, according to a release from the Alaska Department of Transportation.

The release said the ferry will now be returning to service on May 12, which means the May 2-11 sailings are canceled.

“The canceled sailings include the first Aleutian Chain run for the summer 2015 schedule,” the release said.

According to the online ferry schedule, the Tustumena was due to stop in Kodiak on May 2, 4 and 6 as well as on May 12 on the way back from the trip down the chain.

Passengers booked during that time are being contacted by the Alaska Marine Highway staff.
