Fighting off computer viruses and recovering long-lost family photos is all in a day’s work for Todd Musgrove.
Musgrove recently launched a computer repair and maintenance business, Rat_Logic Computing, to help Kodiak residents solve their computer issues.
Musgrove said he started the business after realizing there was a need for computer help in Kodiak.
“My landlord kept telling me we need another computer guy in Kodiak,” he said.
Musgrove has more than 10 years of experience on his resume. He decided to get into computers because he was tired of doing hard labor.
“It’s a challenge,” Musgrove said. “I just chose computers. I stuck with it and did the basics.”
He purchased his first computer in 1996 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in computer science from North Georgia College and State University two years later.
“That was the biggest learning curve,” Musgrove said. “I just stuck with it and did the basics.”
As soon as he graduated, he went to Microsoft and earned additional certifications.
He worked in Atlanta, Ga. for 10 years as a network engineer doing contracted computer work for businesses like UPS.
Musgrove came to Alaska in 2010, when he decided to take a break from computers and join the fishing game.
His first job in the fishing industry was driving a skiff on the Kasilof River. He later moved to King Cove, where he spent five months working in a processing plant, processing crab and cod. Fishing eventually brought Musgrove to Kodiak.
“Then I just thought if I was going to do fishing, I should come to Kodiak,” Musgrove said.
Some of the services Rat_Logic performs include installing antivirus and Internet security, data backup and recovery, troubleshooting and repair, network monitoring, data migration, relocation and setup, wireless optimization and technology consulting.
Musgrove offers his computer services to individuals and businesses, and he offers free consultations.
