The Mocha Girls are returning to Kodiak for a second concert this Friday.
The group kicked off their second North American tour with a performance at the Mecca Lounge in February.
DJ Marc Ignacio, of Island Style Entertainment, said the five-member singing and dancing group from the Philippines is returning because they enjoyed the atmosphere in Kodiak.
“They called me and said, ‘We like the vibe of the people there and we enjoyed it,’” Ignacio said.
At first, Ignacio was worried that it was too soon to bring the same group back, but decided that since people in Kodiak enjoyed the first show so much he would do it.
The women will be singing a different set of songs including top 40 hits and some of their own songs.
Rey Kilay, a Filipino comedian from San Francisco, Calif. will open for the group.
“It’s a totally different show,” Ignacio said. “Since all the vibe is in the air we want to keep it going.”
In the month since they were in Kodiak, the Mocha Girls have traveled to Canada, New York, Texas and other parts of the U.S. to perform in more than 20 shows.
“They’ve been picking up gigs as they go,” Ignacio said. “They were in Canada doing two shows and people asked them to stay another night.”
This is the last leg of the Mocha Girls’ second North American tour. They will follow Kodiak’s performance with a final performance in Seattle and are then scheduled to head back to the Philippines.
The show begins at 8 p.m. Friday in the Kodiak Harbor Convention Center. Doors open at 7 p.m. The show has a 21 and older age requirement.
Tickets are $45 in advance and $55 at the door. To purchase tickets in advance, contact DJ Marc Ignacio at 907-539-1542.
