Kirk Elliot McCormick
Lifelong Chiniak resident, Kirk Elliot McCormick, 43, passed away in his home on February 6, 2020.
Kirk served six years in the Army National Guard, and was awarded several medals, ribbons and badges during his deployment to Kuwait and Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Among his many passions, Kirk loved playing Texas hold ‘em, hunting, traveling, welding and metal fabrication; his most recent project in progress was building an ultralight airplane. He was always challenging himself to learn and explore new things: He was just a few credits away from obtaining his Master of Business through the University of Nevada, and was currently in the process of obtaining his first patent.
Kirk had a lot of love for his friends, his family and his country. He will be truly missed by many who knew him and loved him. Kirk is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jerry Tousignant. He is survived by his parents, Brent and Sibyl McCormick of Chiniak; his brother, Kent (Laura) McCormick of Bellingham, Washington; sister, Angela (Chris) Murray of Juneau, AK; sister, Alana Tousignant and future brother-in-law, George Timpke, of Kodiak. Nieces and nephews: Leora, Amara and Torin Murray; Julia Tousignant; and Axel McCormick.
On Saturday, February 15 at 2:00 p.m., everyone is invited to attend a memorial service in honor of Kirk at the American Legion. A potluck will follow right after the service.
