Jayson John Donald Vinberg

Jayson John Donald Vinberg was born on July 20, 1989 to Anthony Furio and Donna Vinberg. He spent his growing years on Spruce Cape Road and attended Kodiak High School. He moved to Anchorage where he met the love of his life, Becky Woodhave. They married on May 17, 2008 and moved to Utah later that year. Jayson and Becky were blessed with two sons, Eaen and Duncan, now 11 and 5 years old. A loving father, Jayson would take his sons hiking, play games and read them stories. He had a love for the outdoors, adventure and spending time with his family.

He had the ability to work in a variety of fields and did well at nearly anything he put his mind to. Jayson worked in the automotive industry, plumbing, solar energy installation, heavy equipment operation and fishing.

Jayson was a great and generous friend to many. He would give the shirt off his back and was always willing to lift a helping hand. He had an easygoing personality and a contagious smile. He greeted all those he loved with warm hugs. Jayson returned to Kodiak a few months ago. He wanted to come back to the place he called home. He came to reconnect with family here and to help in any way he could.

Jayson’s life was taken on June 13, 2020 on the Kodiak Navy Seal Training Base (an investigation is pending). He is deeply missed by many. He is survived by his wife Becky; sons Eaen and Duncan; mother Donna Vinberg; father and stepmother Anthony and Esther Furio; sister Diane Vinberg; other siblings Tony Furio, Rebecca Furio, Alberta Laktonen, April (Jeremy) Counceller, LaRita (Tru) Laktonen-Ward and Melissa Laktonen (Tyler Coffin); grandfather Antonio Furio; uncle D.J. (Anna) Vinberg; and aunts Dee (Charlie) Jerling, Sandy Vinberg, MaryAnn (Jess) Holmes, Dolly (Mike) Bloodworth and Carolyn Merrigan; and many nieces, nephews and cousins who all adored him.

Jayson’s tender soul and laughter was a treasure to his friends and family. Jayson, we love you endlessly.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Jayson’s 31st birthday, July 20, 2020. It will be at the Abercrombie group picnic area from noon to 5:00 p.m. A potluck will be held in his honor, and all are welcome.
