It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mary Louise McFarland announce her passing on Friday, Aug. 9, 2019, at home with her husband of 71 years by her side.

Mary was born on May 10, 1927, in Clark County, Missouri, to the late Ernest and Myrtle McPherson French.

Mary and her husband Walter “Corky” McFarland met as young adults and were married on May 17, 1948, in Davenport, Iowa.

She first moved to Alaska in May 1949 to join her husband in Kodiak where he was stationed with the US Navy Weather station. They attempted to leave the state twice, but Kodiak called them back for good in 1965. It is here where they raised their family.

Mary is survived by her husband Corky, her children Robin (Mark) and Sandi. She is also survived by her grand children Corki (Pat) and Lenny. As well as her great grand children Anthony, Jayce, and Josie.

While living in Kodiak, Mary had many jobs.  However, in September 1973 she found her career when she started working at KEA. After 25 years of work at the co-op, she retired as the Manager of Finance and Office Services.

In her retirement years she spent her time gardening, enjoying life with family and friends, and staying active in her church.

Mary took pride in her family. She taught us all to treat people with kindness and to smile even when times are tough.

She always kept her shoulders back and head held high. Not a day went by where she did not share her beautiful smile with those around her. She has touched numerous lives and will be missed by all who knew her.

As per her wishes, a private ceremony for her family and friends will be held at a time of their choosing.

Cards may be sent to Corky McFarland and family at PO Box 2774, Kodiak, AK 99615.

May our memories of her continue to light up a room and bring smiles to the faces of those who knew her.
