Lifelong Alaska resident Lucy (Sugar) Christine Bergmann, 59, passed away after a rapid battle with cancer in Anchorage, Alaska, on November 17, 2017. She was at home with her loving family by her side.
A funeral service will be at the St. Innocent Orthodox Cathedral, 401 Turpin Street, Thursday, November 30, 2017, at 2 p.m., with a public viewing at 1 p.m. Father John Zabinko will be officiating. A potlatch will follow in the church gathering area downstairs.
Lucy was born in Akhiok, Alaska, on December 7, 1957, to Kalumpi and Matrona Larionoff. After the 1964 earthquake and tidal wave, the family moved to Old Harbor, where she grew up and later raised her children. She touched the lives of everyone she met, even those who were passersby; that is how much love she had to share, how much love she emanated. Her passion was her grandchildren, her kids, helping anyone who needed her.
Sugar (our mom) is loved by many and will be missed by all – a kind, loving person who will be remembered, always. Thank you for providing our family with extraordinary love, strength and compassion – for being “Tough as Tumuq”– now it is our turn to pass on your legacy.
Lucy was preceded in death by her mother and father, Matrona and Kalumpi Larionoff Sr.; brothers: Joseph Peterson, Larry Larionoff Sr., Kalumpi “Roger” Larionoff Jr., Harry “Leo” Larionoff, Henry “Gordon” Larionoff; sisters: Flora “Nancy” Boskofsky and Betty Jane “Dolly” Wilson; and husbands: Robert Bergmann Hardarson and William Furrow.
She is survived by her daughter, Eva Bergmann Hok (Joseph) and children (Sebastian, Preston and Savannah); her son, Robert Bergmann (Katherine) and children (Tyiler, Julian and Troy) of Anchorage, Alaska; brothers: Frank Peterson Sr. of Bainbridge Island, Washington and Victor Peterson of Old Harbor; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She will be laid to rest, at home, in Old Harbor on Saturday, December 2, 2017. Services and burial will be at the Three Saints Orthodox Church at noon. Father Ioasaph Tucker will be officiating.
