KODIAK — It is Independence Day tomorrow, and the senior center will be celebrating with the Annual Stan and Nita Nelson BBQ. Each year on this holiday, we celebrate the Nelsons with a holiday BBQ to honor them for donating part of their estate to the center’s endowment fund.
The menu will be hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, baked beans and cookies for dessert. This event is for people 60 and older. The BBQ begins at noon after the American Legion Parade downtown.
We will have the usual sign in sheet for lunch that day, but the endowment fund sponsors the event so contributions will be accepted and appreciated but are not being requested. If you are 60 and older, please come join us for this July 4th celebration at the center.
Summer is usually a quiet time of year at the center but we do have activities planned for this month:
Tai Chi continues on Wednesdays at 9:30 with Deb
Jodi does Yoga on Thursdays at the same time.
This month’s movies are “The Boy Who harnessed the Wind” and will be shown Monday at 1pm and then “The Fundamentals of Caring” on July 22.
Foot Clinics are scheduled for Friday and July 12 most of the day. Call for an appointment.
Birthday lunch is at noon Friday.
We are celebrating Bastille Day on July 12 with a French themed lunch.
This month’s family caregiver support group will be held July 18 at 12:30.
And, to celebrate summer, we will have an ice cream social after lunch July 19. Come eat your favorite ice cream, make a banana split or root beer float.
We’ll have the celebrated senior center band, The Whippersnappers, playing each Friday after lunch with upbeat music and times to dance.
Please join us for any of these activities all at the senior center.
