It is back to school for the younger set, and seniors can add to their academic challenge and bucket lists by signing up to take a computer class.
Kodiak Senior Center has collaborated with Kodiak College for a number of years to provide a teacher for classes at the center’s computer lab. Coming to the center and taking classes with your peers makes it convenient, easy and a place where everyone is on the same page.
Classes begin Sept. 19 with beginner classes being held on Tuesday and Thursdays and Advanced/intermediate on Monday and Wednesdays. Call the center to get the times of classes and to sign up.
ChairYoga with Veronica Costa-Bolton also starts up again after a rest this summer. Veronica’s class is held at 9:30 a.m. Mondays.
Tai Chi teacher Deb McCusker is off this month, but classes will resume in October. We are seeking someone to lead exercise classes at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday. Katrina is on maternity leave.
Golden Tones start up at 1:30 p.m. on Thursdays starting Sept. 6. This is your opportunity to sing.
We will hold a special picnic to celebrate Grandparents Day at noon Monday at the center. Laurie will also have a trivia contest during lunch that day.
And since it is Senior Center Month in September, we will have a Dress Down Brunch at noon Friday, Sept. 21 along with an ice cream social at 3 p.m. the same day. Our international lunches on the last Friday of each month have been very successful. This month on Sept. 28 we will be serving Russian food.
Thank you Ted Orcutt for his donation of a huge 55-inch television for our lounge area where movies are being shown each month, and also to Anne Stone for a VCR to Island Cove Adult Day Program.
We are always looking for volunteers at the center. We receive no funding for any of our activities, so if you have a special skill you would like to share with seniors, please let us know by calling 486-6181.
