Michael V. Rockstad, 57, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center.

He was born on Sept. 18, 1962, in Seattle, Washington, and spent his early years on Bainbridge Island where he learned to love the water and fishing. At the age of 18, he began his fishing career in Kodiak and remained there until his death.

Michael loved Kodiak and he was a loyal friend to so many people. The comments you will hear most about Michael are that everybody loved him, and he would give you the shirt off his back. He was always ready to help when someone needed it. He will be missed!

Michael is survived by his nine brothers and sisters: Paul Rockstad of Concrete, Washington, Susan Lester and Patricia Lunde of Seattle, Washington, Margaret Huling of Ridgefield, Washington, Noel Hanish and Theresa Rockstad of Poulsbo, Washington, John Rockstad and Rita Elsberry of Bainbridge Island, Washington and Matthew Rockstad of Las Vegas, Nevada, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Friends and others whose lives he touched are invited to a memorial gathering at the Kodiak American Legion on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 5 p.m.
