Kodiak Senior Center is not closed, but we have adapted to federal, state and local mandates. We have transitioned from congregate meals to a “drive-through” meal delivery from noon until 1 p.m., Monday through Friday. Drive up to the back parking lot door and we will give you a meal, which has soup, salad, entrée, bread and dessert. The published monthly menu is still the same. We will also gladly accept your donation for that meal. Home-delivered meals are the same as previously, but we have added more than 25 home-delivered meals. With this increase in home-delivered meals, it might take a bit longer for those meals to be delivered, so please be patient. If you need a home-delivered meal, please call us by 10:30 a.m. and we can do a brief questionnaire and get your meal to you. Home-delivered meals are seven days a week and on holidays. On Fridays, home-delivered meals are given for that day as well as the weekends if needed. Meals and donations for home-delivered meals are the same. You can also continue to purchase meal tickets. The Senior Center’s hours are still 8:30-5:00 Monday-Friday, and the phone number is 486-6181. Check the center’s website (www.kodiakseniorcenter.org) for more information.
Suspended services include Island Cove Adult day, chore and respite. You can call the center for information or assistance with benefits, forms, etc. We can also assist if you need to pick up groceries or medicines. Safeway is open for people 60 and older with special shopping hours on Tuesday and Thursday from 7-9 a.m.
Kodiak Area Transit Systems (KATS) has limited service only for medical appointments and work. KATS will take seniors to Safeway for those special shopping hours. Call them at 486-8308.
We are here to assist in any way we can. Please remember to stay home, hunker down, call your friends and take care.
