Charles William Holt, 57, passed away March 12, 2014, at home of cardiac arrest. Charlie, as he was known to family and friends, was born May 3, 1956, at NAS Memphis, Tenn., to Jerry and Norma Howard Holt.
During his early years, Charlie traveled with his parents and brother to various naval duty stations around the U.S. and for two years lived in Taiwan. The family transferred to Kodiak, Alaska, in 1967 where Charlie entered grade school and graduated from Kodiak High School in 1974. Shortly afterwards, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and attended several military technical schools. Charlie served for six years, seeing service aboard the U.S. Navy nuclear attack submarine Guitarro as an electronics technician second class. He was awarded the Navy Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal.
Returning to Alaska after his naval service in 1981, he was employed by ARCO and later British Petroleum at Prudhoe Bay until his death.
Charlie stayed active in order to keep up with and play the sports his daughters played. For several years Charlie raced motorcycles and taught motorcycle classes. His most recent hobby was rebuilding motorcycles in his garage. Charlie had an uncanny ability to fix anything. He enjoyed finding the newest, greatest books and sharing his new findings with his family.
Charlie gave his family the world. He was constantly trying to better himself to provide the absolute best for his family. Charlie was very friendly, loving and caring, and was very considerate of others; he lived his life to the fullest. He always wanted to learn something new and teach it to his family and loved ones. Charlie’s outgoing and loving personality as well as his ability to make people laugh will be greatly missed.
Charlie is survived by his spouse of 30 years, Darcy Peotter Holt; daughters Ellen, Hayley and Samantha; parents Jerry and Norma Holt; brother Rob and Karen Holt, and nephew Elias; in-laws Jim and Sandy Peotter; John McLaughlin and Penni Peotter; niece Adrienne and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
