The Alutiiq Museum will host a volunteer orientation meeting at 7 p.m. tonight in the museum gallery.

The public is invited to hear archaeologist Patrick Saltonstall discuss the upcoming excavation of the Amak site at the head of Women’s Bay.

This prehistoric site contains evidence of an Alutiiq settlement 3,000 to 7,000 years ago.

Volunteers 14 and older are welcome to participate in this community archaeology project, and high school or college credit may be available. Fieldwork will be from July 25 to Aug. 2. For more information, call the museum at 486-7004.
