A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak aircrew rescued two mariners 130 miles northwest of Kodiak on Tuesday, according to a Coast Guard news release.

Sector Anchorage Command Center watchstanders received a broken and unreadable mayday call around 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Sector personnel requested the vessel in distress to activate its Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon. With the activated EPIRB, watchstanders were able to determine that F/V Dutch, the 32-foot fishing vessel, was in Iliamna Lake, between Kvichak Bay and Cook Inlet. The vessel had run aground.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter arrived on scene at 7:21 a.m. and hoisted and transported the mariners to Iliamna Airport. No injuries were reported.
