The center is still not open, but we continue to provide much-needed services as best we can.
Friday, July 3, we will be officially closed for the July 4 holiday and not doing “drive up” meals that day. Home-delivered meals will be delivered on Thursday, July 2, for Friday, July 3. Weekend meals will also be delivered on that same day.
On Saturday, July 4, when we usually have the annual Stan and Nita Nelson BBQ, we will have drive up meals and also do home-delivered meals for that day. There will not be a meal delivered in a congregate setting that day. Drive-up meals will be from noon until 1 p.m. The usual BBQ menu of hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad and baked beans will be served. We will be calling our home-delivered meal participants for their choice of menu options.
Usually the Nelson annual BBQ is one of biggest gatherings at the center, but due to the safety of participants and staff, we will alter the event this year and still serve a delicious lunch.
We do have a zoom exercise class continuing in July. Arctic Physical Therapy is volunteering to conduct the class on Fridays at 9:30 a.m. The class is 30 minutes of chair-based exercises. To sign up and complete the consent form, go to https://form.jotoform.com/20133710562119. After you sign the consent form, you will be given a link to join the Zoom meeting.
It seems like we are all meeting by Zoom these days. If there are suggestions for other classes that might happen by this format, let us know and we can see if we can provide them.
We have done outreach to see if there is a group of seniors who might be interested in a walking group who would social-distance a couple times each week. If you are interested, please contact Laurie at 486-6181 and we can set that up.
We will be evaluating when we might be able to offer respite and chore services again. We are speaking to participants and staff about levels of safety and procedures. We will let everyone know when these services might be available.
SCOK would like to wish everyone a Happy July 4, Independence Day. Contact us at 486-6181 if we can assist you.
