Denise ‘Lael’ Wendover Martin passed away peacefully on Nov. 24, 2018, in University Place, Washington. She was surrounded by her three daughters, husband and other members of her family. She was born Valentine’s Day 1957 in Fairbanks to Donald and Virginia Wendover (Glenn). Known as Lael, her spirit was vibrant and her personality strong.

Lael and her husband Leonard built a life in Kodiak, Alaska, where they raised her youngest daughter Rosemary. She worked as a Special Education Paraeducator at East Elementary School and enjoyed using her time advocating for students and helping them learn. Throughout her life, Lael used her talents for many things including being a dental assistant, real estate agent and day care director. Lael loved children and working as a paraeducator, especially because it afforded her the opportunity to spend her summers in Lakewood, Washington, with her two older daughters Jessica and Jasmin, along with her grandkids and great-grand kids. You could often find her in the kitchen developing recipes and creating food for those she loved. She very much enjoyed watching her family gather to share in meals and was always happy to cook food and share her delicious recipes. Lael was very passionate about her family and friends and had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
