State parks advisory board

The Alaska State Parks Kodiak District Citizen’s Advisory Board will hold it’s monthly meeting on Monday, April 11, at 7 p.m. at the Fort Abercrombie park office. All are welcome to attend. A copy of the agenda can be obtained by contacting the Kodiak District office at 486-6339.

Madsen bear dedication

On Saturday, April 9, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center there will be a dedication ceremony of the Madsen bear outside the center. It was moved to its present location this past summer. The ceremony will begin outside at the statue, then move inside. Roy Madsen will give a presentation on the genesis of guiding on Kodiak through one family’s perspective. There will also be a presentation by Harry Dodge about the Kodiak Brown Bear Trust and give a reading from his new book, “Kodiak Hunts,” and will be available for signing books. Plan the state fair

Help plan an annual community event by becoming a board member of the Kodiak Rodeo & State Fair. Meetings are first Tuesdays monthly at our local fairgrounds. Several seats are open. For more info contact Lisa Kostelecky, 486-9446, or Charlene Pudish, 487-2452.

Jules Verne movie

Enter “The Fabulous World of Jules Verne” and be prepared to be amazed. Journey under the sea in this fantastic adventure from the mind of the master of science fiction, Jules Verne. This is one of the most imaginative films ever made. See it at the Public Library on Thursday, April 14, at 7 p.m. It’s part of the Whale Fest Celebration and admission and refreshments are free.
