Justin Thran recieves the Bayside Firefighter of the Year award from chief Howard Rue.

• Bayside Volunteer Fire Department’s 2018 Firefighter of the Year Award went to Justin Thran. Thran has been volunteering with Bayside for a little over two years and is one of a number of U.S. Coast Guard firemen who volunteer at the station.

“He’s just always has a great attitude, comes to drills, he’s made a lot of calls, done a tremendous amount around the station,” said Bayside Fire Chief Howard Rue. “He’s kind of been an inspiration for the other guys.”

• Kodiakans Isaiah Joshua Galindez and Troyvictor Valdez are among 21 students from Alaska who made the 2018 fall honor roll at Central Washington University. CWU undergraduate students who earn a 3.5 or better grade point average, on a 4.0 scale, while carrying at least 12 graded credit hours of study are eligible for the honor roll. Both Galindez and Valdez are freshman at CWU, which has its campus in Ellensburg, Washington.
