Free drill conductor workshop

The Alaska Marine Safety Education Association will offer a two-day Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor Workshop in Kodiak, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28.

The workshop meets at Kodiak Seafood and Marine Science Center, 118 Trident Way.

Topics will inculde cold-water survival skills, EPIRBs, flares, maydays, man overboard recovery, firefighting, immersion suits, emergency drills, helicopter rescue, life rafts, and abandon ship procedures.

There will be an in-the-water practices session on Saturday.

This workshop meets the training requirements for documented commercial fishing vessels operating beyond the federal boundary line. It is offered to commercial fishermen at no cost, thanks to support from the U.S. Coast Guard, Alaska DCCED and NIOSH. The workshop is open to all other mariners at a cost $175.
