The state waters Pacific cod season will opens Feb. 7 in the Kodiak area.
The Guideline Harvest Level (GHL) for the 2010 cod fishery is 13.51 million pounds for Kodiak. The South Alaska Peninsula is set at 15.25 million pounds, and the Chignik area is at 9.46 and opens on March 1.
Last year, the Kodiak area GHL was 8.69 million pounds.
In the Kodiak area the GHL is equally divided between pot gear and jig gear. Pot vessels measuring larger than 58 feet are limited to 25 percent of the GHL until Sept. 1.
The Chignik area will have a 58-foot vessel length limit. The GHL is split to reserve 10 percent of jig gear and 90 percent for pot gear.
The South Alaska Peninsula area also has a 58-foot vessel length limit. Pot gear is restricted to 85 percent of the GHL.
Limitations for gear are: no more than 60 pots or five mechanical jig machines per vessel in all three registration areas, and vessels using pot gear must use buoy tags while gear limits are in place.
The season opening can be delayed in 24-hour increments, and up to seven days beyond the opening date if gale-force wind warnings are in effect.
