Hans Tserschich Photo
On Aug. 19, 18 hikers from around the world, including from Italy, England, Germany, Holland, San Diego, Olympia, New York, and Kodiak) participated in a five-mile hike sponsored by the Audubon Society of Kodiak under the leadership of Cindy Bower and Hans Tschersich. Tschersich wrote, “At the end of the hike everybody participated in a cleanup of piles of trash (bottles, cans, paper plates, cups, ammo cartridges and lots of broken glass) at White Sands Beach in Monashka Bay. After having enjoyed the beauty of this island on our hike we all were shocked and saddened by this disgusting display of carelessness and vandalism committed and tolerated by members of our community.”
