Alaska State Parks Director James King will hear citizen comments about a planned construction project that would install a large vehicle turnaround and close a campsite at Miller Point in Fort Abercrombie State Park.
King will be at the Fort Abercrombie Ranger Station on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m.
The $1.3 million project was designed to improve vehicle access to the park — especially during crowded cruise ship days. It is funded by the $50-per head state cruise ship tax.
In addition to the work at Miller Point work, about one-third of the project’s funding would go to improvements to the road into the park, such as adding a traffic circle where the road to Miller Point splits off from the park entrance road.
The construction is expected to take place in the late summer or early fall of 2010.
