Laura Griffing is a three-time state champion.

The Kodiak junior won the girls’ 100-yard breaststroke at the state championship meet at Bartlett High School on Saturday.

This is Griffing’s third consecutive breaststroke state title.

She touched the wall in 1 minute, 6.57 seconds. In Friday’s prelims, she swam a 1:06.42 — her best time of the season by nearly three seconds.

Griffing recorded Kodiak’s only state title, despite the Bears having three swimmers and one diver seeded first headed into the state competition.

The Kodiak girls placed a school-best second with 69 points. The Bears’ previous best was a third in 2008.

Service won the girls team title with 113 points.

The Kodiak boys placed fifth with 44 points. Dimond won the team title with 99.

Senior diver Scott Wandersee, ranked first going into state, finished second with 432.90 points. Service’s Dalton Haas won with 444.55.

Junior Celeste Beck-Goodell, seeded first in the girls’ 500 free-style, placed second with a time of 5:14.65. Dimond’s Nikki Wray won with 5:14.26.

Beck-Goodell also placed seventh in the individual medley.

Junior Myra Scholze placed third in the 100 breaststroke, while freshman Jori Lindquist was fourth in the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.

Nando Macinko, seeded first in the 100 backstroke, placed third. The sophomore also was fifth in the 50 freestyle.
