Students and staff at Kodiak Middle School spent time this weekend placing hundreds of simple valentines on elementary school decks and taping them to middle school and high school lockers.
Kodiak Middle School librarian Kadie Schmidt started the project last year to give every middle school student a valentine. This year, she expanded it to every single student in the district, sending envelopes of valentines back to the villages with teachers who came to Kodiak for in-service on Thursday and Friday.
Schmidt, students and stuff cut hearts out of colored paper and wrote positive sayings on them in four languages: English, Tagalog, Spanish and Alutiiq.
On Thursday, the colored valentines filled the hallway declaring “You are awesome,” “Never give up,” “You rock,” and “Happy Valentine’s Day” awaiting the students’ return on Monday.
