Take kids’ PFDs to pay for new school

Everyone needs to vote no on the school bond as they have not taken everything into consideration. Most senior citizens are on fixed income and cannot afford the higher taxes. They are only exempt from $150,000 on their homes. That needs to go up to $250,000. Our school and borough did not do their homework. Until Kodiak gives a higher exemption, we do not need a new high school.

Why doesn’t the borough and school board take the permanent fund dividend of every child from kindergarten to grade 12 attending our schools each year until the school is paid? That would be the fairest way, as then we would not have so many immigrants coming here and living off of us. They send their money back to their countries. They live eight to 15 people or more in a house. Whoever owns the house is the only one being taxed. This is not right. Every child should pay.

If the kids want to learn welding, they should pay to take it at the college.

The high school I went to is 80 years old and still is in good shape. The building is three floors, the size of a city block and has 1,600 students. We had to walk fast from one end of the first floor to the other end of the third floor and never were late for our next class. The kids nowadays are lazy and want to visit too much. They need the exercise of climbing stairs. And do not put in elevators, either. If we could do it, they can do it, too.

It is cheaper to build up than to build only one floor. You use less land and save on fuel, too. Don’t these so-called architects know how to build an economical building?

The city needs to build their own office building and not be in with the borough offices. The city could build on a second floor of the police department or library. We the borough people cannot vote for city officials, so why should we provide offices for them?
