On Aug. 26, Alaskans will vote on Ballot Measure 3. It is important for the public to know what Measure 3 means to our political process.
The VECO corruption scandal is proof big money from corporations and special interests has compromised Alaska’s political system. Today, the candidate with the most money wins. Clean Elections evens the odds by allowing candidates to use a small amount of public funds to run a clean campaign, free of paybacks for special interests, making an elected leader accountable to all constituents. This avoids prioritizing interests of those who donate the majority of funds to a campaign.
This will be a very small amount of public funds producing a huge benefit to all Alaskans no matter what income, gender or race.
Clean Elections or Ballot Measure 3 is worth it. We need to work on a clean start, provide an alternative to the current process and establish a voluntary system of public funding. Whatever your priority, Clean Elections is the reform that makes all other reforms possible!
Alaskans, don’t let this chance go by. The time has come to vote “yes” on Measure 3.
